EndoFlip™ is a state-of-the-art diagnostic tool that allows real-time measurement of the geometry and pressure within the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, especially the esophagus and stomach. At Southwest Gastroenterology, we use EndoFlip™ to assess esophageal motility disorders, such as achalasia or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), with greater precision. This minimally invasive test provides invaluable data that standard endoscopy or manometry may not capture.
During the EndoFlip™ procedure, a small balloon catheter is placed into the esophagus while the patient is under sedation. The balloon is filled with saline containing sensors that measure cross-sectional areas and pressure. This data helps determine how well the esophagus contracts and relaxes. It’s especially helpful in evaluating candidates for procedures like POEM or E-POEM.
The key advantage of EndoFlip™ lies in its ability to visualize real-time function and structure simultaneously. This combination enables a more tailored approach to treatment planning. For patients experiencing persistent swallowing difficulties or unexplained chest pain, EndoFlip™ may uncover underlying dysfunction that would otherwise go undetected.
This technology is also used intraoperatively to guide surgical decision-making in procedures such as Heller myotomy or fundoplication. The insights gained can enhance procedural outcomes and patient satisfaction.
Southwest Gastroenterology is proud to offer this advanced diagnostic tool, underscoring our commitment to cutting-edge care for esophageal and motility disorders.
