Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR)
Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) is a minimally invasive procedure used to remove precancerous growths, polyps, and early-stage tumors from the lining of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. At Southwest Gastroenterology, EMR is commonly performed during endoscopy and is an effective alternative to more invasive surgeries. This procedure allows our team to precisely target and remove abnormal tissue without the need for external incisions.
EMR is typically recommended for patients with lesions in the esophagus, stomach, or colon that are confined to the mucosal layer. Using specialized instruments, our team lifts and cuts out the abnormal tissue through the endoscope. Because EMR is less invasive than traditional surgery, patients often experience shorter recovery times and reduced risk of complications.
Our board-certified gastroenterologists use advanced imaging and diagnostic tools to identify suitable candidates for EMR and ensure the highest degree of precision during the procedure. This makes it possible to treat early-stage cancers and precancerous lesions while preserving healthy tissue.
After the procedure, patients are closely monitored, and follow-up appointments are scheduled to assess healing and ensure no recurrence of abnormal growth. Most individuals can return to their normal activities within a few days.
At Southwest Gastroenterology, we are proud to offer EMR as part of our commitment to delivering cutting-edge, patient-centered gastrointestinal care.
