EUS (Endoscopic Ultrasound)
Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) is a cutting-edge procedure that combines endoscopy and ultrasound to visualize organs within and adjacent to the gastrointestinal tract. At Southwest Gastroenterology, EUS is a powerful tool for diagnosing and staging cancers, evaluating pancreatic disease, and assessing unexplained GI symptoms.
During EUS, an ultrasound probe attached to an endoscope allows high-resolution images of the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, and surrounding lymph nodes. This provides more detail than standard imaging methods and allows for real-time fine-needle aspiration (FNA) of suspicious lesions.
EUS is often used in evaluating pancreatic cysts, staging esophageal or gastric cancers, and assessing unexplained abdominal pain or weight loss. It can also guide drainage of pancreatic fluid collections or celiac plexus blocks for pain relief.
Because EUS is minimally invasive and performed under sedation, recovery is quick and discomfort is minimal. It offers both diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities in a single procedure.
At Southwest Gastroenterology, we are proud to provide this advanced imaging modality to help deliver timely, accurate diagnoses and targeted interventions.
